Robert Bowman

Managing Director

Robert’s love of wine began when he and his high school sweetheart first shared a bottle of German Liebfraumilch.  While he knew almost nothing about wine at the time, that first bottle intrigued Robert and inspired what would later become his life-long passion for wine.

As an undergraduate at Cornell University, Robert continued to learn about wine and visited many of the wineries and vineyards in the Finger Lakes region of New York.  After graduating from Cornell with a B.A. in English, Robert found himself back in North Carolina working for a regional grocery chain.  Robert worked for this grocery chain for twelve years, the last seven of which he was the Category Manager for Beer and Wine—affording him a fantastic opportunity to learn about the commercial aspects of the distinct businesses of beer and wine.  Robert also earned his M.B.A. from Wake Forest University during this time.

After leaving the grocery chain, Robert and a business associate attempted to purchase a regional beverage company.  While this attempted acquisition failed horribly, Robert did at least learn about how such deals are put together and financed.  After the failed take-over and with no immediate job prospects, Robert got a phone call from his old friend John, who wanted to talk to Robert about “helping out temporarily” at Banks Channel.  Two years after that phone call, Robert became a partner at Banks Channel.

Today, Robert is the managing partner at Banks Channel and is thrilled to be part of such a vibrant, growing company and to be associated with so many terrific individuals at Banks Channel.  Robert is married and has three young children.
